RSPCA Cymru has long campaigned for greater awareness of the importance of animal welfare within Wales’ educational environment and curriculum.

We believe that education is the best means of prevention and that by instilling kindness and compassion in our young people, we can help create a society in Wales that is not only kind and compassionate to themselves and their peers, but also to animals and all sentient beings.

Integral to the Generation Kind scheme, in 2015 the RSPCA  launched its Great Debate programme, a groundbreaking project involving school pupils aged 11-14 who represent their school in debates on animal welfare topics in regional heats across England and Wales. The competition helps to nurture key skills in research, deliberation and communication and teaches pupils about the importance of citizenship, democracy and participation in political processes, and the impact that this can have on animal welfare.
