Firework complaints and advice calls to the RSPCA
The RSPCA is concerned for the welfare of animals affected by stress and anxiety caused by loud fireworks. RSPCA commissioned opinion polls in 2007 and 2008 identified around 60 per cent of pet owning respondents whose animals were frightened of fireworks.
Between 2005 and 2009, the RSPCA has been receiving fewer phone calls asking for advice and complaint calls are also very much on the decline, however visits to the RSPCA website’s firework pages have doubled since 2007 which could indicate more awareness and better measures to prevent distress on the part of owners.
A more responsible attitude to the use of fireworks by the public is being encouraged. And it is hoped that even more preventative information will be easily available to pet owners in the future.
